What does claiming a business mean?
Many businesses appear on Trusted Rw before their owners ever sign up, because the directory reflects companies operating in Rwanda. Claiming a business is the official process of proving you are the legitimate owner and taking management control of that listing. Once your claim is approved, the profile is transferred to your account and you become its verified owner, with full access to manage its information.
Who can claim a business?
Claiming ownership is reserved for the people genuinely entitled to represent a company, its owner, founder, or an officially appointed director. To claim a listing you need two things:
- A business account on Trusted Rw (you can switch from an individual account in a single step during the claim).
- Documentary proof that links you to the business, such as your RDB registration certificate or an appointment letter.
Every claim is reviewed by the Trusted Rw team against the documents you provide, so honest, well-supported requests are approved quickly while unsupported ones are declined.
Before you start: a quick checklist
- Make sure you are logged in to your Trusted Rw account.
- Have your ownership documents ready as PDF, JPG, PNG, or DOC files (up to 10MB each).
- Know the exact name your business is listed under so you can find it quickly.
Step-by-step: how to claim your business
Step 1 - Find your business
Search for your company by name in the Trusted Rw business directory, or use the "Claim Business" option available in the site footer, on category pages, and in the community feed. When you open your company's profile, you will see its current details, ratings, and reviews.
Step 2 - Open the claim wizard
On your business profile, open the actions menu (the three-dot or "More" menu) and select Claim Business. A short guided wizard opens and walks you through each step. You can also launch the global claim search from the footer link and pick your business from the results.
Step 3 - Switch to a business account (if prompted)
Claiming requires a business account. If you are currently on an individual account, the wizard shows a "Business Account Required" step where you can switch instantly, without leaving the page or re-registering.
Step 4 - Confirm the business and your intent
The wizard confirms the business you are claiming and asks you to describe why you are claiming it, for example, "I am the founder and registered owner since 2020." A clear, specific explanation helps reviewers process your request faster.
Step 5 - Upload proof of ownership
This step is required. Upload one or more supporting documents that prove your connection to the business. You can drag and drop several files at once.
Step 6 - Read and accept the Anti-Fake Claim Policy
Trusted Rw protects every business owner from fraudulent takeovers, so before you submit you will read and accept the Anti-Fake Claim Policy. It sets out your responsibility to provide truthful information and the consequences of misrepresentation.
Step 7 - Submit and track your claim
After you submit, your claim moves to "Pending Review" and the Trusted Rw team is notified. You can follow its progress at any time from your dashboard under My Claims, and you will receive a notification the moment it is approved or declined.
Which documents are accepted?
Strong evidence is the fastest path to approval. Accepted documents include:
- RDB Registration Certificate that shows your name as owner or director.
- Appointment or authorisation letter designating you as the owner or a responsible officer.
- Official government document that clearly links you to the business.
Upload files as PDF, JPG, PNG, or DOC, each up to 10MB. Attaching more than one document, when you have them, makes verification easier.
What happens after you submit?
Your request is reviewed by hand, not approved automatically, which is what makes a claimed profile trustworthy. If it is approved, ownership of the listing transfers to your account, you are set as the verified owner, and you can immediately manage the profile. If more information is needed or the documents do not support the claim, the request is declined with a note explaining why, and you are welcome to submit a stronger claim.
